Our History

The oldest Constituency Labour Party

Celebrating our Birthday

As well as being a friendly, open and forward-looking organisation we are proud of our long and illustrious history. Colne Valley is the first and oldest Constituency Labour Party in the country, founded in 1891. And we got the first Labour County Councillor, George Garside, elected in 1892.

He, and dozens of working men and women like him, paved the way for Victor Grayson’s stunning Parliamentary victory in 1907.

We've achieved some important things locally and nationally over the years, and throughout it all we remain committed to making this constituency a great place to live and work, for everyone.

There's more about the constituency on Wikipedia.
