Talking Policy

Colne Valley Labour recently contributed to the Labour Policy Review. Our contribution started with a real commitment.

We share the concerns of the Equality Trust that inequality in both income and wealth is on the increase in Britain. Labour will tackle this damaging divide by:
a) Greater regulation of providers of key goods and services;
b) Working towards a fairer spread of both public and private sector investment around the regions of Britain;
c) Establishing mechanisms to promote Fair Pay in both the public and private sectors, aiming for a pay ratio within organisations of no more than 15:1;
d) Taking account of the fact that richest 1% of households has the same wealth as 54% of the population in all changes to the tax system.

Our contribution also reflected our passion for education. Our favourite phrase on this says "Labour believes that education is wealth in its own right, as well as a means to other forms of wealth".

Alongside education we care about public transport and our beautiful local environment.

We are affiliated to the Socialist Health Association and to the Hannah Mitchell Foundation.

Our members frequently contribute to debate led by 38degrees , Avaaz and change.org.

We also like keeping an eye on Labour ideas shared on Labour List and http://labour-uncut.co.uk/.

We sometimes share articles from Left Foot Forward  , Progress or Compass.

We keep in touch with Kirklees councillors and with our elected MEPs Linda McAvan and Richard Corbett.

For a closer look at what Government gets up to we like False Economy and especially their new pages @ dwp unspun - a great resource on Welfare.
